Coupled Follicular Units
Hairs naturally grow from
the scalp in groups of 2 to 4 hairs called follicular units. Coupled
Follicular Units (CFU) describes natural linear groups of 2 or more
follicular units. Because they are naturally placed closer toget
her
than could be achieved by transplanting each follicular unit individuall
y
these grafts achieve greater density. Basically, the maximum hair
density (# of hairs per square centimeter) an individual can obtain will
never exceed the density of the donor area (sides and back of your
scalp). Therefore, moving intact g
roups
(CFU) of follicular units will create maximum transplant density. It
also exponentially increases the
speed of the procedure and significantly reduces the chance for physical
trauma and thereby ensures minimal hair loss in the transfer.
Linear slot incisions are vital
when transplanting CFU's. By removing tiny, narrow corresponding bald tissue
(0.5 mm wide) the slot incision achieves a "perfect fit" for the
graft . This "perfect fit" allows grafts with more hairs to be
transplanted without graft distortion and compression. The random spacing
between hairs in the graft is the same as your original hair from the donor.
The hairs grow without pitting or a clumpy appearance. Since the grafts are
narrow, healing is quick and virtually undetectable.
