On August 11, 1998 the U.S. Patent office
issued Dr. Gary Hitzig patent #; 5,792,163 for invention of the Hitzig
Linear Punch. Linear grafting has been complimented by the commercial
development of The Redfield Slot Punch (RSP). The Redfield Corp.,
Montvale, NJ, now commercially manufactures the Dr. Hitzig Linear
Punch under the trade name Redfield Slot Punch. This new instrument is
machine made and computer sharpened, providing the consistent shape and
sharpness lacking from previous prototypes. Slot Punch sharpness and
consistency is as vital as the technique the surgeon uses to make the
slots. It is now very feasible to transplant up to 5000 hairs in 2-3
hours. The obvious advantage is better results as well as cost
effectiveness for both the surgeon and patient.
Also, the vertex swirl (top back of the
head) pattern is much easier to recreate utilizing this instrument. With
a narrow slot incision the surgeon can mimic the swirl pattern to follow
the natural growth pattern in the crown.
At Gary S Hitzig, M.D., P.C. a transplant session must consist
of several techniques integrated together to achieve the best patient
result and satisfaction. Single hairs and individual follicular units
create the best hairlines. Smaller coupled follicular units (small
Linear grafts in slots) create the most natural parts and lower vertex
swirls. Larger "Coupled Follicular Units" create significant
central density without sacrificing naturalness.
